For example, try "sqrt(256)", "e^(pi*i)", or "18% of 45.23". Or, try converting units: "80 km/h in mi/h" or "2 lb in kg".

I use functions programmed in Python running on the Django web framework on the backend. Apache serves the pages on an Ubuntu Feisty Fawn server. jQuery on the front end creates a fast and easy to program UI. Google's brilliant calculator integrated into its search engine backs this simple yet powerful way to do calculations.
